Tiki Bars and How to Make One

April 1st, 2009

If you enjoy throwing parties, consider making a tiki bar to bring a little island culture to your home. You can build a bar indoors, on your patio, in your yard, or by your pool. A tiki bar is an awesome place to serve drinks, and it is one of the coolest ways to add a bit of Polynesian tiki culture to your home.

A tiki bar is usually modeled after a Polynesian tiki hut. It is traditionally made with bamboo, and a thatched roof made of grass or leaves. When you adorn your bar with distinctive tiki decor and furniture, it will have a unique style and appearance to give you the feeling of being in the islands during all of your gatherings. The tropical style will give you the feeling of being on vacation all year long. A tiki bar can be a wonderful setting for memorable hula-style parties. You can feel like you’re escaping to Polynesia for a drink or two, while never leaving your home.

To make your own tiki bar, start with wooden posts and plywood. Screw the wooden posts together to form a box. The exact size of your bar will, of course, depend on the space you have. You can make a small bar for your living room, or a large hut for a backyard party. Most tiki bars take the shape of a hut with an enclosed bar, but you can make just the bar portion if you don’t have a large space to work with.

Because bamboo splits easily, you should use harder wood for the actual structure of your tiki bar. Once the rough structure is complete, cover the exterior with bamboo, and thatch the roof. You’ll also want bamboo poles to accent your island-style paradise. If you’re using larger bamboo poles to cover the outside of the hut, pre-drill them, and split them in half so they will sit flush with the side of your bar. Dried palm tree fronts, straw hula skirts, and artificial hibiscus flowers can also add realism to the exterior of your tiki bar. Complete the structure by installing a bamboo bar on which to serve drinks.

Once the structure is complete, collect traditional decor to make your new bar truly feel like a tiki hut. In tiki culture, carved items like totems, statues, and masks hold great value. Tiki totem poles can make great bar stools, or they can be used to adorn the walls. These are large wooden pieces carved into the likeness of tiki gods or moai. Totems, as well as smaller statues or masks, are a great way to decorate your bar in authentic tiki fashion, and they are an instantly recognizable part of tiki culture.

A tropically-themed tiki bar can be a great way to enjoy island culture when you’re not on vacation. A tiki bar can be a great place to entertain your friends. Building a tiki bar is simple; be sure to use plenty of tiki décor to make the ultimate island paradise.

Quality Stair Parts

April 1st, 2009

People always want to get the best value for their money. This is an important consideration when purchasing a house. Most people prefer to have a two-story house or more. If a house is more than one level, it is of course necessary to have a staircase. There are different materials, shape, design, structure and construction for a staircase. Stair parts are of great importance.

A staircase is a primary part of a home. It gives the home its accent. When you walk into a hallway and you see a well-designed staircase, this will lead you up to take in the entire entrance. The stairway sets the tone for your home and first impression makes the place memorable. It has different designs - some are steep, narrow, wide, spiral, straight, curved spiral stairs, circular staircase, etc. As a home owner, the choice is yours. There are staircases manufactured in a factory. However, others are built by carpenters. Different materials and components can also be used to make a staircase. A staircase can be made of wood, steel, cement, so on and so forth. A staircase manufactured in a factory is transported to a building site and is installed by the carpenters. People like staircases with good stair parts.

A staircase is designed according to function. Oftentimes, a staircase is more magnificent if it is situated in the entryway and is placed in a visible location. However, if it is situated in the basement that is not usually treaded upon and is less grand. A spiral staircase is also a common design. It is artistic and is often used to save space. There are several types of staircases but all of them have the same basic stair parts. The style depends on how the stair parts are put together and built. We can find numerous styles in different home designs.

Stairs are one of the most complicated or elaborate architectural structures in your home, so quality should be guaranteed. Rules and principles are applied in building a stair. The basic rule is that a stair should be safe to use. The staircase should be able to support a certain amount of weight depending on its purpose. But safety is the primary concern in putting stair parts together and building a staircase. A good staircase should of high quality that it is strong and firm enough even with great crash or impact.

So before you start building a home, decide on the staircase you want that best suits you. Its usefulness or function and its style are two elements which are of utmost importance. However, the cost consideration is also necessary. Different designs have different functions. If you want the best stairs for your home, find the best stair parts that can have the style you want for your home. Always consider their functionality and design. You’re building a home and making investment with it. Style and magnificence are a big part to the value of that investment. However, quality and superiority are the foundation.

Modern Television Stands Online

April 1st, 2009

Many people settle for TV stands that are poorly built and look rather old fashioned. You needn’t make the same mistake - track down a modern TV stand online and you can secure an item of furniture that is extremely stylish.

In essence, a good television stand has two main purposes. The first is that it should hold your television set in a stable manner. It should be solid and be built in such a way as to ensure that it will lost for a good period of time.

The second reason for buying a TV stand should be because it looks great in your living room and really shows off your television.

So you might want to ask yourself whether your current stand or cabinet is meeting these objectives? Is it solid and is it fashionable and impressive?

If not, now could be a good time to think about buying a replacement. There are a number of online retailers who specialise in selling TV stands, so you’ll find that you have plenty of choice available to you.

Finding a modern television stand is all about thinking about what you need for your room. You’ll obviously want something capable of supporting your television set and that will not break easily.

Most manufacturers offer guidance on the maximum weight that their stands can handle. You can usually find this information by looking at the specifications and dimensions for an individual stand.

2008 Plus Size Fashion Trends - Start Shopping For The Best Plus Size …

April 1st, 2009

Color trends will feature a shift to lighter and warmer hair colors. Particularly in the winter months the focus will be on reds and auburn shades, with those who currently have the darkest colors of hair opting for rich chocolate browns and cinnamon tones. 2008 plus size fashion trends including colors like peach and aqua, make for beautiful Spring career dresses. Look for a beautiful plus size peach jacket-dress that will make you look your best in a Spring career dress.

Shop now for plus size Cinderella-style prom gowns, and junior size Cinderella-style prom gowns. Don’t wait, because these wholesale prom gowns are moving fast! Shopping for a plus size swimsuit doesn’t have to be a painful experience! Knowing your body type makes swimsuit shopping fun and easy!

Brown (let’s call it chocolate, yum!) is making a big splash this year. If you’ve never considered a brown canvas, give it a try.

All across our beautiful country, every woman will be facing a similar dilemma. While I do acknowledge that there are more serious dilemmas to solve, like global warming or the cure for cancer, the new 2008 plus size fashion trends crisis can certainly wreak havoc on the lives of many women. The fashionable plus size woman should, after all, also be practical so that she does not fritter away money in order to look trendy. Don’t you find it amazing that the average American woman is a size 14 but according to designers that size is extra large or a “plus” size. Not to mention that several clothing stores do not even sell a size 14.

There are so many full figured styles and trends available on the market right now, and the average woman owns at least 3 purses. You can make the same outfit look completely different just by changing your handbag. At nearly 5′6″ and 110 lbs., an individual can wear a lot of styles BUT as a woman over 50, the fashion police seem to discourage experimentation. Common sense advice is most welcome.. Denim is perhaps the most fundamental part of any woman’s wardrobe, but if you’re larger than a size 14, you may have a difficult time finding a pair of stylish, sexy jeans. Although certain brands of premium jeans are made in plus sizes, most lines of designer jeans are sized only within the waist range of 24 to 32.

Clothes that are too large make a woman look like a bag lady. Too-small fashions are hideous. Detailing has gone military this season; however the modern tailoring gives this particular look a sleek and womanly twist. You ladies can find a perfect combination in 2008 plus size fashion trends, for those of you who would like to experiment with various items. The problem is that you can’t fit every woman into the same mold. We are all different sizes and shapes.

Find plus size women’s dresses plus size designer fashions, plus size bras, plus size maternity clothes and popular women’s plus size swimwear by visiting http://www.fabulousplussizeclothing.com - a plus size fashion site for women that can help you look you look your best.

Wholesale Electronics - What You Should Know When Purchasing Wholesale …

April 1st, 2009

In December ‘08, the keywords “wholesale electronics” turned up about 49,500 search results. Electronics such as mobile phones and mp3 players are some of the most popular and most searched, turning up millions of searches each month. You see, electronics is one of the most profitable products to market for 2009 with demands ever increasing continuously. This article will show you how to profit from this popular product category by showing you what you should know when purchasing products such as dvd players, mp4 players, hdd media players and mobile phones at wholesale prices.

Do you know where to turn to for the best wholesale electronics deals? China, of course. China, the world’s largest factory for just about anything is the world’s largest market for wholesale products including electronics. You’d think that because electronics products such as mp3 players and mobile phones made in China are cheap quality has been compromised. That’s not the case for most products that I have personally tested and used. Since China’s cost of labor and production are low, products sold at wholesale are ridiculously low but the quality are at par with some of the leading consumer electronics brands.

Now, when buying wholesale electronics from China, to make the most out of your investment, be sure to know a few things such as should you be dealing with wholesale dealers or should you be dealing directly with manufacturers. It goes without saying, of course, that you’d get the best deal when dealing directly with electronics manufacturers. Dealing with wholesale dealers or “middlemen” could jack up the prices of the products you are purchasing thereby decrease your profit margin. So do a lot of research and know all there is to know about the electronics entity that you are going to deal with - are they electronics dealers, manufacturers or both?

But don’t discount dealing with wholesale electronics dealers altogether. There are electronics suppliers out there that not only offer outrageously low prices, they also offer customers:

• High-quality and reliable products
• Guaranteed warranty on all products
• Excellent service
• Convenient online ordering system
• Flexible and secure payment methods
• Fast and reliable turnaround time on all orders
• Help on your tax concerns

All these benefits compensate for the slight difference in prices between consumer electronics companies.

So choose carefully. Do your homework before you venture into electronics business. Doing this could be quite daunting as there are tons of wholesale electronics companies out there to choose from. But doing close inspection is worth all the trouble for a better bottom-line.

Tow Bars Or Tow Dollies?

April 1st, 2009

A tow dolly is basically two wheels, an axel and a tongue, and allows you to tow almost any front wheel drive vehicle behind your motorized RV, without adding miles to your vehicle.  No need to modify the front of your vehicle, or to install a base plate, or lube pump. 4 wheel drive, rear wheel drive and all wheel drive vehicles may need the drive shaft disconnected and removed to be transported with a tow dolly.

Tow dollies add weight to the towing vehicle. Dollies weigh anywhere from 500 to 1500 lbs, plus weight of the towed vehicle. That means that your total towed weight can be anywhere from 2500 to 5000 lbs.  Depending on your total weight, you may need a dolly with brakes. Also, you may need to license your tow dolly.  Check the laws of your home state, as well as the states in which you plan to travel.

A tow hitch, or tow bar is attached to the towing vehicle and to the towed vehicle. The hookup between coach and car has become an easy one-person operation.  Tow bars are smaller and easier to store thank dollies when not in use.  The bar can be motor home mounted, or vehicle mounted, and require the towed vehicle to be fitted with a base plate specific to that vehicle. The vehicle mounted tow bar adds weight to the front of your towed vehicle, and can reduce ground clearance, so consider your vehicle type when choosing a tow bar.

Front wheel drive, manual transmission vehicles can be towed with no modifications 4 wheels down. Most 4 wheel drive vehicles with manual transmissions, manual transfer cases and manual lock out hubs can be towed on all fours with no problem. To be sure if your vehicle is safe to be towed with a tow bar, check with the vehicle manufacturer. And know state laws for the weight limit for vehicles to be towed without added brakes.

Both methods of towing need proper maintenance to insure continued safe use, and neither can be backed up while hooked up. Both require safety chains and lights.

So, enjoy all the freedom of the open road, as well as available transportation while parked. Choosing from any of the above will enhance your camping experience.

How to Choose a Security Gate System to Prevent Unauthorized Access to …

April 1st, 2009

If you want to prevent unauthorized access to your property, and you already have fencing, or are planning to install fencing, your next consideration should be a security gate. But choosing the right gate can be tricky. Here are a few things you’ll want to consider:
The gate width. This may seem silly, and inconsequential, but the width of the gate can have a bearing on the price, and other factors. A wider gate will be more expensive in itself, as well as heavier, meaning your choice of motor may be affected. Then again, consider things like what kind of vehicles will be entering your property. I’ve heard stories of gates blocking the entry of fire trucks, because they were too narrow - not a good idea! Next, consider what type of gate you want. Sliding gates are great, but if there is a slope on either side of your driveway or entrance, they can work out expensive, as you’ll need to “build up” the soil either side. Then again, remember that you will need a distance equal to the gate’s width on the opening side, in order to accommodate the gate! If there are trees, objects or buildings, a swing gate may be a better choice. When it comes to cost, there’s probably no bigger factor than material. Wooden gates are usually cheaper than steel, especially if you decide to go for a galvanized, coated or painted steel version, but they can be lower maintenance, as timber will need painting or varnishing over time. Don’t skimp on the details. Things like sliding wheels, hinges and other accessories should be robust and good quality, since they will be supporting your gate. There’s no use having a big, fancy sliding or swing gate that doesn’t slide or swing, is there? Motors are another issue. It’s tempting to buy the cheapest you can find, but if it’s not designed to handle the weight, and number of openings and closings your gate has to deal with, it won’t last long. If your gate will be working often, consider buying a light industrial motor, instead of one designed for domestic use. Another thing to bear in mind is that even the best gates and motors need to be maintained. One of the most common causes of sliding gate motors not working right is that the track gets clogged with sand. This causes the gate to “stick” or even come off its rails. A good idea, with sliding gates at least, is to fit one of the brushes on the market, that sweep the track as the gate opens and closes, saving you the hassle of cleaning the track!

A great gate should give you years of trouble free service, but making smart choices when considering this investment can make all the difference. Do some research, find out what best meets your needs, and then buy the best you can afford, and you should be fine.
